Alternative Health Care Program

Aetna's Alternative Healthcare Program is a discount program with three parts:

  • Natural Alternatives - Special rates on alternative therapies, including visits to acupuncturists, chiropractors, massage therapists and nutritional counselors.
  • Vitamin Advantage™ - Savings on over-the-counter vitamins and nutritional supplements.
  • Natural Products - Discounts on a variety of health-related products, including aromatherapy, foot care and natural body care products.

You may place orders by mail, telephone, fax or online to receive savings on health-related products offered through these programs.

Fitness Program

Aetna's Fitness Program lets you take advantage of discounted fitness services provided by GlobalFit™. Depending upon your location, you may be eligible for one of two GlobalFit programs*. Under GlobalFit A, you can join the GlobalFit network and receive discounts on their health club membership rate. Under GlobalFit B, you can join included clubs directly, receiving the club's lowest corporate rate for the type of membership selected. Both programs offer you:

  • Low or discounted membership rates at independent health clubs contracted with GlobalFit;
  • Free guest passes to allow you to sample facilities before selecting a club to join;
  • Guest privileges at other participating GlobalFit health clubs, and
  • Discounts on certain home exercise equipment.

Healthy Outlook Program®

(Available to dependent pre-65 retirees only)

If you've been diagnosed with asthma, coronary artery disease, diabetes or low back pain, Aetna's Healthy Outlook Program can help. Healthy Outlook offers personalized information and tools to help prevent or delay complications, give you good ways to manage your condition and improve your quality of life. This includes:

  • Counseling by registered nurses to help you recognize and manage the signs and symptoms of your condition.
  • Self-care tips to help you keep your condition under control and enjoy a healthier life.
  • Free booklets, videos, newsletters and other educational materials to help you understand your condition, use medications and special equipment, and avoid health problems.

By providing resources that help keep you out of the hospital, Healthy Outlook helps you develop healthier habits and improve your quality of life.

You can sign up to participate in the program by calling Member Services at the toll-free number printed on your ID card; or your doctor or other health care provider can sign you up. In any case, Aetna will need to approve you as a participant for the program.

Informed Health® Line*

Aetna's Informed Health Line gives you toll-free, 24/7 telephone access to registered nurses experienced in providing information on a variety of health topics. While the nurses don't diagnose problems, they can:

  • Help you understand health issues and treatment options,
  • Go over specific questions to ask your doctor,
  • Provide research analyses of treatments and diagnostic procedures, and explain the risks and benefits of various options.

Informed Health Line also includes an audio health library that lets you access up-to-date health information 24 hours a day using any touch-tone phone. The library is available in English and Spanish.

National Medical Excellence Program®

When you or a covered family member is facing an organ transplant or other complex procedure, Aetna's National Medical Excellence Program can help. The program has three parts:

  • The National Transplantation Program matches up people who need organ or tissue transplants with facilities that have outstanding track records in these procedures. The program helps patients find the treatment they need, and understand their plan benefits for this treatment. It also helps family members pay for travel and a place to stay when treatment is being provided away from their local area.
  • The National Special Case Program assigns a special case manager to help you sort out treatment choices for rare or complex problems.
  • The Out-of-Country Care Program helps with your care and benefits if you need to go into the hospital while you're traveling overseas.

The Institutes of Excellence Network
Aetna's Institutes of Excellence Network supports the NME program. This is Aetna's network of health care facilities for transplants and transplant-related services, including evaluation and follow-up care.

National Advantage Program™

Aetna's National Advantage Program (NAP) offers special rates and discounts with doctors, hospitals and ancillary providers outside Aetna's network. If you are enrolled in one of Aetna's Traditional Choice plans (Option 1 or Option 2), you can use an NAP provider and receive discounts off billed charges. If you are enrolled in Aetna's Open Choice PPO plan, you can receive discounts on the rates of certain non-preferred providers. Regardless of your plan, you also may take advantage of special rates on emergency or medically necessary services not provided within Aetna's standard network.

To find providers participating in NAP, go to www.aetna.com and click on the DocFind link on the home page. When you area asked for "plan type," select "National Advantage Program." Or you may call Member Services at the toll-free number printed on your Aetna ID card.

When you visit an NAP provider, show your ID card. There's no need to pay at the time of service. You can participate in the program directly by contacting Member Services. If you use a doctor who belongs to Aetna's network, he or she may refer you to the program and make arrangements for you to participate if you are eligible. The provider will submit a claim to Aetna and you will be billed for your share of the expense based on your plan of benefits.

Vision One® Discount Program

Aetna's Vision One® Discount Program helps you and your family save on eye care products, including eyeglass, contact lenses and solution, non-prescription sunglasses and other eye care accessories. You can also receive a discount on LASIK (laser correction) surgery through the program.

To take advantage of this program, just visit www.aetna.com, click on DocFind and select Vision One or call 1-800-793-8616. When you need products or supplies, you can choose from a wide selection of optical centers nationwide, such as Sears, JCPenney, Target, certain Pearle Vision Centers and others. Just show your Aetna ID card and the discount will be applied on the spot.

Women's Health Programs

Aetna offers a variety of benefits, information and services that focus on the unique health care needs of women.

For example, women have direct access to participating OB/GYN providers for routine maternity care and an annual well-woman exam, with no referral required. Aetna also offers:

  • An annual OB/GYN exam, with no referral required
  • An annual mammogram
  • Screenings for cervical and colorectal cancer, and helpful reminders for these screenings
  • An infertility program that helps members find and access appropriate services and discover available treatment options.
  • A breast health program that includes a breast cancer screening program and case management for women diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • Confidential genetic testing for breast and ovarian cancer.
